Kaleidoscope Crossings

By Carlos Fresquez and Community Members | 10 Locations

The Kaleidoscope Crossing ground murals, located at ten intersections, utilize the ArtLine pattern logo brand as creative wayfinding to guide visitors along the route. This element of the project was very organic and community-driven. The name Kaleidoscope Crossings was developed by members of the 40 West ArtLine Champions group and dozens of community volunteers worked with artist Carlos Fresquez to help create the murals.

“I really wanted to lead the Kaleidoscope Crossings community ground mural project because I've had a lot of experience working with the community and felt I would be a good fit to offer my experience to this challenging project. One of my favorite parts of the project was meeting the numerous caring and supportive people of the neighborhood. With so many hands working on these murals, some murals are more expressive and some are taped very crisp, with clean geometry. I noted that the favorite part for the volunteers was not painting the first layer of white paint, it was not the taping nor painting the vibrant color in each section, it was removing the tape. There was something so satisfying about seeing the final process and it was truly a joy to witness the face of each volunteer complete their intersection.” - Carlos Fresquez
